Jessica Silva was gathering herbs for a big spell when the house phone rang. The caller said his name was Carlos, that they spoke every day through the Ouija board, and that he was calling from hell. In this episode of God’s Truth Podcast, Jessica shares how a teenage witch who adored Satan was scared straight, delivered at an altar, and years later set free for good.
Growing up in a house of fear
Jessica grew up in San Diego, the youngest of three in a loving Catholic family. Then, when her older sister was still a young girl, something terrible happened to her, and home changed. Her sister became violent and unpredictable: cursing their mother, smashing mirrors and dishes, fighting neighbourhood boys. Jessica says she could feel a darkness around her.
One day her sister hurled a corded telephone at their mother. Jessica threw her arms around her mum and took the blow to her own head, needing stitches. On the way to hospital, she was asked to say a stranger had thrown a rock. She did.
As a little girl, she knelt before church statues and begged them to change her sister. Nothing changed. “If there is a God,” she decided, “He ain’t my God.”
Finding “protection” in witchcraft
Jessica stopped going to Sunday school, started smoking weed, and found her way into witchcraft. At first it felt like a game. Then it felt like protection. Her sister began to leave her alone, and Jessica felt she had finally found her thing. She bought spell books from a magic shop, read tarot for paying customers, used the Ouija board, and filled her bedroom with altars and candles. “I was in love with Satan,” she says. “I was going to be one of his wives.”
“She thinks it’s a game”
Then two people from New Covenant Church knocked on the door and prayed with Jessica’s sister, and her sister gave her life to Jesus. Soon after, the pastor’s wife took her aside at church. “You have a sister,” she said. “She doesn’t have much time. I see witches all around her. She thinks it’s a game. You need to bring her to me.”
Jessica agreed to go once, on one condition: never ask again. She turned up in black lipstick and Hot Topic black, watched people run the aisles and pray in tongues, and decided they were crazy. Nothing happened. Or so she thought.
The phone call from hell
Two days later, the phone rang while she was in the bathroom. The caller hung up and rang back the second she flushed. “This is Carlos,” he said. Jessica didn’t know any Carlos. “Don’t hang up,” he said. “We talk every day. The Ouija board. You think it’s a game, but it’s not a game.”
He knew she had been to church, which she had told no one. “You’re in too deep,” he said. “You’re coming home. He’s mad you went to church, so we’re coming for you.” Home, he confirmed, was hell. Asked whether people really burn forever, he answered yes with an agony she has never forgotten. “I used to do what you’re doing,” he said. “I thought it was a game too.”
Sitting on the floor, she started tapping her fingers. “Stop tapping your fingers,” he said. When she asked what she was wearing, with every curtain closed, he described her grey shirt and red sweats. He told her where she used to hide as a child when things got bad at home, behind a bush nobody knew about. Then he said, “We’ll see you soon,” and hung up.
The night everything came out
Terrified, Jessica told her sister, who called a pastor. Jessica prayed the sinner’s prayer over the phone. She didn’t mean it, but she prayed it anyway. That night, she and her mother bagged up every book, candle and altar in her room. When they went back for a pentagram poster, Jessica began to tremble and couldn’t go through the door. Her older sister, asleep in that room, ran out screaming that her bed had started shaking. The whole family slept in the living room that night.
Delivered at the altar
At the next service, the pastor’s wife called Jessica forward by name. Her husband, Pastor John, pointed towards her and said, “Satan, I rebuke you. I bind you in the name of Jesus.” Without being touched, Jessica flew backwards and began writhing on the floor like a snake while pastors held her down and the whole church prayed.
She says every prayer felt like a punch, not to her, but to what was in her. At the end, she felt a pull downward, like something being sucked back into the ground. Then the church poured her witchcraft out on the altar and told her to step on it.
Falling away, and coming home
Jessica is honest that love for Jesus didn’t come instantly. A mentor picked her up for every service and taught her the Gospels, and she grew. When that mentor moved away, Jessica drifted. Years followed that she isn’t proud of, and she has since received God’s forgiveness for them. “How dumb was I,” she says, “to think I could do life without Jesus after everything He had already done for me?”
On 2 September 2023, after an argument with her husband, she walked into a women’s conference she had turned down the day before. It was called Immovable, after Psalm 46:5. That day, after years of being lukewarm, she fully surrendered.
Healed through inner healing
Then, on Thanksgiving Day that same year, her heart began racing and wouldn’t settle. For months she could barely make her bed or shower without feeling faint. Her doctor offered to put her on disability. She kept going to church and kept serving.
Her sister in Christ urged her to try an inner healing and deliverance session. On 31 January 2024, Jessica went, forgave a childhood hurt she thought didn’t matter, and felt nothing at the time. The next day, her heart was calm. A few days later, walking the aisles of Target, she heard the old lie that she shouldn’t be walking. “I’m healed, devil,” she answered. “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus.”
Jessica today
Today Jessica serves in deliverance ministry with her sisters in Christ. She encourages every believer to stay teachable, find a mentor, stay planted in church, and consider inner healing as a regular tune-up. “Don’t give up praying,” she says. “The prayer is punching the demons out.”
