This testimony includes serious illness and a hospital stay. Nothing here is medical advice. Brandi herself received hospital care throughout.
Brandi Cunningham had just come home from a conference where she trained to help women in crisis pregnancies. That night, she says, demons surrounded her bed and made a threat: “If it’s really worth it to you to save babies, then you will die within 60 days.” She and her husband Robyn laughed and said, “Bring it on.”
What followed was a season of battle on every front: their land, their animals, and Brandi’s own body. In this episode of the God’s Truth Podcast, the couple behind Fireside Grace tell Abigail Smith what happened, and how they learned to stand. What follows is their account.
A fireplace to heaven
Brandi has followed Jesus since she was a little girl. At nine, worshipping alone in her bedroom, she had a vision of a fireplace that reached “all the way up to the heavens,” in a warm room lined with books. Jesus sat cross-legged on the floor beside her in front of the fire. She understood that her life would be about helping people “walk through the fire” with grace. “You really don’t need fire added to you when you’re going through the fire,” she says.
Today she is a registered nurse, ordained minister and life coach. With Robyn, who teaches on dreams and hearing God, she leads Fireside Grace: online prophetic intercession, a weekly Zoom gathering for discipleship, healing ministry and teaching. Brandi also works full time in pregnancy crisis support, helping mothers and families who feel they have nowhere to turn. The couple live on a small farm where they rescue animals and raise their two young sons.
“Is it worth it?”
The night she returned from the training conference, Brandi says, she was awake in an open vision as demons swirled around her. They taunted her again and again: “Is it worth it? Is it worth it? Are you sure it’s really worth it?” Then came the threat of death within 60 days. Robyn says he sensed five of them, and knew immediately that “it was a Job thing.” The couple’s defiant “Bring it on” is something Robyn admits he now “kind of a little bit” regrets.
What followed felt like more than coincidence. Lightning struck their land four times. One strike brought a tree down onto Robyn’s office, the very room where they worship and intercede. While Brandi was later in hospital, they lost a number of baby goats. “They went after the baby goats, which are called kids,” Robyn says. “Our whole life is to save children.” They prayed against it, and the losses stopped.
Three new strokes, then a clean scan
Brandi was no stranger to battles for her health. In 2021, heavily pregnant with their second son, she became critically ill with COVID and needed an emergency C-section, with little expectation that she would survive. In early 2025, new symptoms began: a racing heart, dangerous blood pressure and a feeling of “living underwater.”
About two months before recording, her heart rate kept spiking toward 200 and would not settle, and she was admitted to hospital. Tests showed evidence of a stroke she had already had. Moved to a neurology unit after seizure-like episodes, she was told an MRI showed three more: bleeds in different parts of her brain. Her answer: “You’re wrong. I don’t receive that. And thanks for the information, so we can pray.”
With a friend, the nurses and an aide, she turned up worship music and praised God, even during a seizure. “That MRI is going to be clean,” she told a nurse. “It’s a spiritual battle. We wrestle not against flesh and blood” (Ephesians 6:12). The next morning, she says, a doctor walked in and asked, “Why are you here? The hospital is for sick people.” “That’s right,” Brandi replied. “And I’m healed in Jesus’ name.” A second physician, she says, told her he had looked at the same scan and the bleeds were no longer there.
Brandi is honest that the road has not been instant. She needed help to swallow, and numbness and weakness on one side took several days to clear after she got home. She still battles heart-rate problems and is still recovering. But she has had no seizures since. “I’ve gained another testimony,” she says, “that’s going to make the devil ashamed.”
Attack is not proof of sin
One of the hardest parts of their season was the accusation from other believers that Brandi was sick because of some hidden sin or curse. They reject that firmly. Christ became a curse for us (Galatians 3:13), and God shows mercy to a thousand generations of those who love Him (Exodus 20:6). “A thief will knock in your door even if it’s locked,” they say (John 10:10). Sometimes you are attacked precisely because you are doing God’s will. “If you look, you’ll find them. So just know that they’re there, and move forward.”
They believe healing is something believers command in Jesus’ name, not beg for. Isaiah puts salvation and healing in the same sentence (Isaiah 53:5): “We are just as healed as we are saved,” they say. They encourage believers to exhort one another daily (Hebrews 3:13) and not to fear loving confrontation.
“Would you make spaghetti for Me?”
Not every story is a battle. One morning at six, their son asked for spaghetti, and Robyn said no. Then, Robyn says, Jesus stood beside him and asked, “Would you make spaghetti for Me?” “No, I would not,” Robyn answered, then paused. “Am I in rebellion right now?” Jesus laughed: “Not yet.” Robyn made the spaghetti. Later their son asked, “Did you make me spaghetti because Jesus told you to?” He had seen it too.
It is a small story, but for the Cunninghams it captures what Fireside Grace is all about: a God who is close, who sees, and who walks with His children through the fire.
