This testimony describes depression, thoughts of suicide, voices urging self-harm, a psychiatric stay and an abusive marriage. If you are struggling, please reach out to a crisis line in your country, a doctor or someone you trust today. What follows is Cheryl’s account of her own experience, not medical advice.
As a teenager, Cheryl laughed at Christians. “They believe a talking snake deceived the whole of humanity,” she used to say. Twenty years later, deep in the New Age, she found herself talking to a snake. In this episode of the God’s Truth Podcast, the host of The Supernatural Truth tells Abigail Smith how a spirit guide healed her voice in exchange for her influence, how her life fell apart, and how one half-believing prayer to the Holy Spirit changed everything.
Money, success and a question about horses
Cheryl was born and raised in Dubai in a Roman Catholic family of Indian heritage. In a city where, as she puts it, money is god, money became hers too. She earned an MBA in finance and a master’s in international business, studied negotiation at Harvard, and became the youngest assistant vice president at her bank. By 2017 she had reached financial independence and retired early. She stresses this because she was not a “spiritual” person. She was analytical, sceptical and all about evidence.
Her break with faith came at sixteen or seventeen. At a youth retreat, a priest taught on the Red Sea, where the Egyptians and their horses drowned. Cheryl, an animal lover who had nearly drowned herself as a child, wrote an anonymous question: why would God, who made the Egyptians too, kill them and their horses? The priest never answered it. She concluded that this God could not be the real one. She has since repented of what she called Him then.
The buffet of Satan
Searching for the “real” God with her mother, Cheryl began with Raja yoga and its question: who are you? Self-development books led her gently into metaphysical ones. Then came crystals, chakra healing and Reiki, which she learned hoping to help her sick cat. On her first day of Reiki training, with her hands on a stranger, she saw a vivid image of a baby in the womb. The next day she learned the woman was longing for a child. Her teacher told her she was “gifted.”
Cheryl now sees that moment clearly. Gifts come from God, she says, and the kingdom of darkness cannot create them. It can only recruit the people who carry them, and flattery is its favourite tool. What followed were two decades of what she calls “the buffet of Satan”: manifestation, the law of attraction, mind control courses, automatic writing and more.
The serpent called Mother
In 2019 a friend told her ayahuasca would change her life. She flew to Peru. The ceremonies were held at night, in darkness, with chanting, and participants were told to bring questions for the being they would meet. A soft, feminine voice told her to close her eyes. Her first question was “Who is God?” The answer came with a vivid moving picture: God had mixed with creation, so God was inside her. She was God. Cheryl calls it a perfect deception, with a lie and a movie to sell it.
Over three ceremonies, the voice worked to strip away her fear, even of skulls and death. Then Cheryl asked to see her. From behind came a fat black serpent with shining scales. Cheryl was not afraid. She had once kept a pet python. She simply knew the spirit’s name, though it was never spoken: Mother. The next morning she overheard other guests talking about what “Mother” had told them.
Then she made the deal. For years Cheryl could not raise her voice without losing it, because of growths on her vocal cords. Mother offered to heal it, on one condition: Cheryl must teach people what Mother was teaching her, through books and social media. She came home and built an online group of around 2,000 people, teaching them manifestation and the law of attraction. Months later, after a loud night out, her sister pointed out that her voice had not gone. It was healed. Cheryl now warns that the enemy can give an affliction and take it away, and that false signs and wonders are exactly what Jesus warned about in Matthew 24:24.
When everything collapsed
Life began to unravel. A spirit guide’s signal pushed her to buy a house she never wanted, and within a month its value fell by $300,000. Pregnancy during lockdown, isolation, a newborn she struggled to feed and a broken marriage left her in what she calls the dark night of her soul. She lay on the floor and cried. She saw no reason to live, and says only her son kept her here. Then one side of her face became paralysed. After eight days in hospital, doctors found inflammation but no cause, and sent her home on high doses of steroids. Crystals, incense and affirmations did nothing.
“Jesus is the way, the truth and the life”
Her mother asked Cheryl’s cousin, a charismatic Catholic, to pray for her. He suggested she ask for the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Cheryl pictured a dove and thought of Santa Claus. Still, silently, she prayed: Holy Spirit, I want Your gifts.
Something came over her so strongly that she could not stand. She ran to the bathroom mirror, and words that were not hers came out of her mouth: “Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess, Jesus is Lord” (John 14:6; Philippians 2:10–11). Her first thought was impossible. For the next three hours, she says, the Holy Spirit spoke through her, telling her Jesus is God, the devil is real but no more to be feared than a mosquito, and that she must read the Bible cover to cover. Scripture she had never read poured out of her. His one practical instruction: play worship music nonstop.
Two voices and a deliverance
What followed was eleven and a half days of spiritual warfare. By day, she says, the Holy Spirit taught her. At 1am every night, a harsh, commanding voice woke her to write until dawn, quoting Scripture to sound like God. It filled her with pride and paranoia, and told her to cut herself off from everyone. Cheryl says she had no way to tell the voices apart, and did not know then that Satan quoted Scripture to Jesus too.
Her parents flew her to India for prayer. On the plane, after hours of saying, “I bind you and cast you out in the name of Jesus,” she heard the Holy Spirit say, “This is too much for you. I will do it,” and she vomited. It was the first moment she knew this was real. She saw an open vision of a bride descending that became a walled city, and was told to read about the new Jerusalem in Revelation 21:2 and the watchman in Ezekiel 33. The next day, in the shower, as she baptised herself in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, a voice urged her to bang her head against the wall. Another answered through her: “Not one hair from her head will fall.”
The following day she was taken to Brother Louie, an elderly deliverance minister. As he commanded the spirit to leave, a voice spoke through Cheryl: “I am not leaving. This girl is mine.” It offered him a deal: “Name your price.” When he asked its name, it answered: “Lucifer.” Cheryl was fully aware and thought she was finished. They prayed. She woke on the floor, and the first thing she said was that it was a beautiful day. It was gone.
A month in a psychiatric ward
At a hospital afterwards, clutching a crucifix and talking about the Holy Spirit, Cheryl was admitted to a psychiatric unit for a month. She says she was calm and clear the whole time, and the Holy Spirit told her to “watch and learn.” She interviewed other patients, noting what had been happening in their lives before their symptoms began, and prayed for a young woman who was peaceful by day and tormented at night. Cheryl believes much of what she saw there was spiritual, and she is candid that this is her view from her own experience.
Back home in Canada, she spent twelve months investigating whether any of it was true, reading about Lucifer and watching testimony after testimony on YouTube. What finally convinced her were former Muslims and former Satanists, people with every reason not to say Jesus is Lord, saying it anyway. The power of testimony, she says, is exactly what Revelation 12:11 promises.
From New Age teacher to testimony channel
It took her eighteen months to tell a single person. When she finally did, a former coaching client she had once sent to an ayahuasca retreat, he told her he had already started to believe demons were real. In January 2025 she launched The Supernatural Truth, sharing testimonies from people who came to Jesus out of other faiths, witchcraft and the New Age. An online church and deliverance team grew out of it. When God later told her she was called to speak for Him, she protested that she barely knew the Bible, and was pointed to Jeremiah’s call: “Say not, I am a child” (Jeremiah 1:7).
She also shares that God gave her the courage to leave an abusive marriage she never thought she could speak about. “I’m a loving Father,” she heard Him say. For her, that freedom is the best part of life in Christ.
What would have reached her
Asked what could have reached her in the New Age, Cheryl is clear: proof of God. Arguments go nowhere, she says; everyone has a holy book. Show people. Pray for the sick, cast out demons, and let the power of God speak for itself, just as Paul came “in demonstration of the Spirit and of power” (1 Corinthians 2:4). And she reminds believers that Jesus has given them authority over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19).
To anyone still searching, she offers a simple prayer: “Jesus, if You are really God, show me.” She has broken every commandment, she says, and once called God a psychopath, and He still came for her. You are His priceless possession, and there is nothing He cannot forgive.
